September is National Bourbon Heritage Month, calling for the celebration of the ‘Native Spirit’ of America — Bourbon. Culturally, economically, and socially sourced in America, bourbon is truly an all-American beverage. Bourbon was declared as a unique product of the United States in an act of Congress in 1964. In 2007, a resolution was passed by the U.S. Senate, declaring September as National Bourbon Heritage Month. Every year, bourbon enthusiasts come together to appreciate the history, craftsmanship, and milestones of the bourbon industry. Join us at Sigel’s Elite (3209 N Fitzhugh) on Friday, September 22nd from 4-7pm to taste a sampling of this uniquely American spirit.

Bourbon to be Tasted:

Angel’s Envy

"Named for the “angel's share,” the portion that evaporates from the barrel during the aging process, this golden amber spirit is finished in Port barrels, which explains those juicy red-fruit notes that slide into the long finish. Look for orange peel, vanilla and roasted nut flavors, too." 98we

Bulleit

Bulleit Bourbon is inspired by the whiskey pioneered by Augustus Bulleit over 150 years ago. The subtlety and complexity of Bulleit Bourbon come from its unique blend of rye, corn and barley malt, along with special strains of yeast and pure Kentucky limestone filtered water. Due to its especially high rye content, Bulleit Bourbon has a bold, spicy character with a finish that's distinctively clean and smooth. Medium amber in color, with gentle spiciness and sweet oak aromas. Mid-palate is smooth with tones of maple, oak, and nutmeg. Finish is long, dry, and satiny with a light toffee flavor.

Old Settler

This specially selected high-rye Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey displays classic aromas of toasty oak, vanilla, dried plum, raisin and maple-caramel, complimented by hints of tobacco and baking spices. Rich flavors of sweet oak, vanilla, maple pecan, warm baking spice and tobacco lead to a long, warm and deceptively soft finish. Mashbill: 70% Corn, 21% Rye, 9% Malted Barley

Elijah Craig Small Batch

Pure sweetness, honey, marzipan, and wildflower notes. Delightfully complex with notes of vanilla bean, sweet fruit, and fresh mint. Smooth and warm; pleasantly woody with accents of spice, smoke, and nutmeg. Long, sweet, and slightly toasty The sweet drive is nicely backed with drying oak on the pronounced finish.

Larceny

"This small-batch Bourbon uses wheat in place of rye to create a soft, rounded character. The mild crème brulee aroma leads into sarsaparilla and creamy caramel flavors. At 92 proof, it's a wonder that the alcohol feels so moderate, but it makes its presence known in the cinnamon-firework finish. Attractive bottle design with clever keyhole label." 93we

Maker’s Mark

"The nose finds super sweet deep caramel candy and almond extract, but don't be fooled. On the tongue, it's punch-in-the-nose dry and biting. Best served on ice, which takes down the burn and lets the pronounced woody flavors come through: lots of oak, strong tea and cigar tobacco. " 94we

Knob Creek

This exceptional, full-bodied bourbon strikes the senses with an oak aroma, a sweet, woody, full-bodied, almost fruity taste, with a long, rich finish. Created to reflect the flavor, strength, care, and patience that defined whiskey before Prohibition, Knob Creek is perfect neat or on the rocks with one or two ice cubes. Knob Creek is part of The Small Batch Bourbon Collection

Legent

"A collaboration between Kentucky Bourbon-distiller Fred Noe and chief blender Shinji Fukoyo of Japan's Suntory, this Bourbon is partially finished in wine and Sherry casks. The result is a caramel-rich nose and palate that reads almost like dulce de leche with a pleasantly silky texture. There's a hint of dried fruit and spice on the exit." 92we

Nine Banded

Nine Banded Straight Bourbon Whiskey is crafted from a unique blend of 87% corn, 11% rye, and 2% malted barley brought to life with limestone-filtered water from the Texas Hill Country. The rye gives our Straight Bourbon backbone, and is designed to be versatile. On the nose toffee, buttered popcorn and baking spice. The palate is spice forward, with stone fruit and toasted marshmallow flavors with a salted caramel finish.

Nine Banded Wheated Cask Strength

This is a straight bourbon with aromas of honey, melon and dark cherries, before a palate of graham crackers and toasted walnuts. Additional flavor notes include toasted walnut, wildflowers and bananas foster on the nose, with roasted pears and pecans on the palate. The Mashbill is 51% corn, 45% wheat and 4% malted barley.
