Shiloh Manor Farm and Allison Mondel of Eya Medieval Music have teamed together to present the musical witness of the Middle Ages.

As the sun sinks lower in the sky and cold and darkness envelope us, there is hope that the light will return. This ancient and uniquely human experience is profoundly expressed in the early plainchant and epic poems sung by trouvères of medieval Europe.

Shiloh Manor Farm and Allison Mondel of Eya Medieval Music have teamed together to present the musical witness of the Middle Ages, featuring the works of 12th-century mystic Hildegard von Bingen, and other artists lost to history from medieval France, England, and Ireland. The music is ancient, but the message of faith, hope, love, and thanksgiving are so relevant to our world today.

Please join us for our final 2022 Recital and Dinner, Awake, my Soul, on December 3rd at 6:00 pm in the tastefully renovated 230 year old Quaker barn at Shiloh Manor Farm, located in picturesque Purcellville, Virginia. Seating for this extraordinary concert and French holiday dinner is limited! Come and awaken your delight, deepen your gladness, and stoke the fire of gratitude in our hearts at the close of a difficult year and the dawn of a new day.

At the heart of this program are the rapturous songs of Hildegard von Bingen, a Benedictine abbess active during the 12th Century. Hildegard was a prolific author, composer, philosopher, mystic, visionary and early medical writer and practitioner. Other music includes the songs of the women trouvéres of France, rare medieval Irish songs, and traditional French carols, resounding with harp, psaltery and voice in our candlelit space.

Lauded by The Washington Post for her “spare otherworldly radiance”, Allison Mondel is a visionary teaching artist, soprano, and scholar of medieval music. She is a performance specialist of the chants of Hildegard, and director of award-winning Eya Medieval Music. Ms. Mondel’s performance career includes collaborations with Harvard University, the National Gallery of Art, Irish World Academy, Trinity College Dublin, and Washington National Cathedral.

Continuing the Wheatland Concert Series tradition, we will enjoy these deeply emotive plainchants and carols with an exquisite traditional French holiday dinner.
