On Saturday, Austrian native, importer, and good friend Klaus Wittauer will be with us to pour an all Austrian set of wines, including a trio of terrific Austrian Rieslings plus two Carnuntum gems:
Tegernseerhof Riesling Ried Pfaffenberg 2020 - Pretty much the essence of stony/steely Austrian Riesling with a touch of peach, loads of lime and a zesty, chalky, finish.
Tegernseerhof Riesling Loibenberg Smaragd 2019 - A more ripe and generous Riesling, but with fabulous intensity, salty minerality and cut that earned it a 94 point rave from Wine Advocate.
Tegernseerhof Riesling Loibenberg 2006 - We often talk about how well Riesling ages, and this late release 2006 shows you why. Gaining mellow notes of spice and ripe peach, even in this warmer vintage there's vibrancy and intensity to burn. Very limited.
Netzl Rosé of Zweigelt Rosanna 2021 – Christina Netzl has captured the essence of summer in this vibrant bottle of pink Zweigelt that is dangerously delicious to sip solo and has the depth and energy to match nicely with all kinds of summer foods.
Netzl Gottlesbrunn Edles Tal 2019 – Even better than the 93 point trio of 2015, 2016 and 2017 vintages, this has bold dark red fruit, a seductive layer of rich chocolate, and the firm structure you want with steak or lamb off the grill. Really impressive stuff.
As always, we’ll have some treats from the cheese case out to sample with the wines and best savings prices available on a mix/match basis. Come taste, chat with Klaus, and enjoy the selections!
