I’ve known Jim Anderson for a little over a decade. He’s blunt, wry, outspoken, fun and one of the best and most interesting winemakers working in the Willamette Valley today. You should really get to know him, too. And taste why place matters as he leads you through a half-dozen wines from Patricia Green Wine Cellars on Sunday, May 11 in two sessions, one at 1pm and a second at 2pm. No charge, but please RSVP.

Eric Guido, writing in Vinous, last year did a great job of describing Jim’s work. “The vast portfolio of Patricia Green Cellars is enough to keep a terroir fanatic busy for a long time. Jim Anderson sources fruit throughout the valley from some of its best vineyards. Winemaking differs from location to location to accentuate the character of each site, varying new oak usage and stem inclusion on a case-by-case basis. In the end, the wines express the house style beautifully, pure and lifted yet complex, while remaining faithful to terroir. They are also some of the best values in the valley for first-class Pinot Noir.”

Jim and his friend and co-winemaker, Patty Green, started the winery in 2000 after a not so friendly departure from their former employer. Jim insisted Patty’s name was better known, so that went on the label. And they soon were offered the chance to buy a winery and vineyard in what would eventually be known as the Ribbon Ridge AVA.

From the beginning, Jim and Patty believed that the Willamette Valley was full of sites with the potential to give great wine full of the character of each place. So together – until Patty’s death in 2017 – and now solo, Jim has both cared for his estate vineyard and secured partnerships with dedicated growers who care for a diverse set of sites up and down the Valley.

We asked Jim to select a set of his wines that will highlight how place shines through in Willamette Valley Pinot Noir; You’ll start with a welcome sip of the 2024 Patricia Green Sauvignon Blanc, a wine Vinous says “is easily one of the best in the region.” Then taste:

  • Patricia Green Pinot Noir Reserve 2023
  • Patricia Green Pinot Noir Balcombe Vyd 2022
  • Patricia Green Pinot Noir Corrine Vyd Anklebreaker 2021
  • Patricia Green Pinot Noir Estate Old Vine 2022
  • Patricia Green Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vyd 2022
  • Patricia Green Pinot Noir Lia's Vyd 2022

There’s no charge for joining us for this stand-up tasting upstairs, but we do need to limit attendance at each session to 45 tasters so everyone can hear Jim and enjoy the wines. You can RSVP online at this link. We’ll ask you to reconfirm 48 hours before the event so that we can invite those on the wait list to join us as space opens.

It’s going to be a breathtaking tour of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that you will not want to miss. Reserve your spots quickly as both sessions are sure to sell out!
