Do they make wines that express terroir in California? In the past, some said (especially if they were French!) that many California wines just tasted of ripe fruit and wine-making tricks, like they could have come from anywhere. But more and more Californian winemakers have taken up the challenge to produce wines that say something about where they were grown, expressing personality and uniqueness.
So we are happy to have our old friend Robert McFarlane of Potomac Selections join us to present wines by five hot producers from California. Robert will explain how they undress their wines, instead of dressing them up, through careful farming and restrained wine-making. The result are wines of individuality: complex, aromatic and flavorful, without being over-extracted or out of balance.
Chef Jacques and team have crafted a menu to highlight the authenticity of the wines, for an unforgettable gustatory experience, under our Grande Tente on a magical late September evening.
