5-class series plus exam
Includes all WSET study materials, wine samples selected by Jay Youmans MW, 5 in-person class sessions guided by a CWS instructor, the final examination, and postage for mailing of certificates of achievment to addresses in the U.S.
This 5-class course will be taught both in person at the Capital Wine School and on Zoom on Thursday evenings from 6:30pm – 9:30pm on the following dates: September 5, 12, 19, 26 and October 3.
Participants may choose to take the exam in person at the Capital Wine School on Thursday, October 17 from 6:00pm – 7:00pm or online with remote invigilation on Saturday, October 19 from 10:00am – 11:00am. Please see additional details under the Exam Information section below.
The aim of the course is to focus on the key grape varieties and regions of the world. While the course provides an overview of the wines of the world, including main wine grapes and regions, it also covers factors affecting wine quality and style, grape growing, and basic winemaking practices. The course emphasizes tasting assessment and the skills required to describe the aromas and tastes of wine. It helps to develop fundamental tasting and assessment skills. During each class session, students will taste 4-6 wines.
17 Guided Learning Hours (including one hour for the examination) and 11 hours’ private study.
EXAM INFORMATION (The exam takes one hour to complete)
The exam takes 1 hour and consists of 50 multiple choice questions. Those who pass the exam receive the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines, an internationally recognized credential in the wine industry.
Students who enroll in this course may choose to take the exam in person on October 17 at 6:00pm, or online on October 19. Please be sure to choose the appropriate ticket indicating your exam choice, and be aware that we will be unable to make any changes to your exam choice after September 26.

COURSE MATERIALS
There is no pre-study required.
In person participants will receive their study materials and wine samples for the full course at the first class.
Online participants may pick up their study materials and wine samples at the Capital Wine School between 12pm -5pm on September 4, or may have their materials shipped to them for an additional fee (please email info@capitalwineschool.com for more information on shipping).
Please note that all requests for shipping must be received at least 7 days before the first class. Wine samples and study materials will ship to arrive the day of or a day or two before the first class, and we cannot accommodate requests for earlier arrival, nor can we guarantee a delivery date.
INVITATION TO JOIN THE COURSE FOR ONLINE PARTICIPANTS: Zoom invitations will be emailed the day before or the morning of the first class.
