The exam is scheduled for May 2, 2021 - either - 10:15 am in Hartford, or available via online exam (you will select at chack-out).

WSET's Level 2 Award in Wines is a beginner- to intermediate-level qualification exploring wines, suitable for industry professionals and wine enthusiasts.

This qualification is intended for beginners wishing to learn about a wide range of wines or those seeking to build on the introductory knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines. You’ll gain knowledge of the principal and regionally important grape varieties of the world, the regions in which they are grown, and the styles of wine they produce. Through a combination of tasting and theory, you’ll explore the factors that impact style and quality and learn how to describe these wines with confidence.

You do not need to take Level 1 Award in Wine to take Level 2. Anyone with an interest in wine can begin at Level 2 and enjoy a full wine education experience.

What you'll learn

How to taste and describe wine using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine®(SAT)

How environmental factors, grape-growing, wine-making, and maturation options influence the style and quality of wines made from eight principal grape varieties:

  • Chardonnay
  • Pinot Grigio/Gris
  • Sauvignon Blanc
  • Riesling
  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Merlot
  • Pinot Noir
  • Syrah/Shiraz

The style and quality of wines:

  • made from 22 regionally important grape varieties
  • produced in over 70 geographical indications (GIs) around the world

How grape varieties and wine-making processes influence key styles of:

  • Sparkling wines
  • Fortified wines
  • Key labeling terms used to indicate origin, style and quality

Principles and processes involved in the storage and service of wine.

Principles of food and wine pairing.

New England Wine Academy also provides access to additional study material to ensure you have a full and rewarding study experience.

This qualification has a minimum requirement of 28 hours of study time - and is generally broken down in the following:

In-person Classes

  • 16 hours of delivery time with WSET course provider - New England Wine Academy
  • 11 hours of personal study and revision
  • A 1-hour examination

Online Classes

  •  5 weeks covering 6 modules
  • 30 hours of total course hours, with a recommended 6 hours of study per week
  • A 1-hour examination


A one-hour closed-book examination comprised of 50 multiple-choice questions.

On successful completion of the examination, you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo. This qualification is Ofqual regulated.About this course:

The HYBRID WEBINAR is delivered via Zoom with a live instructor on the specified dates and times. Students will have the opportunity to interact with the instructor, ask questions and receive feedback.

Once you register for a course, you will be sent the link for the class as well as other detailed information regarding the delivery and course material.

The enrollment fee includes all tuition costs, study material, shipping (unless otherwise noted), webinar fees, and exam fee (one take), as well as a free subscription to Brainscape Pro, the web's leading flashcard app. The enrollment fee does not include wine samples.

Students will need to have reliable internet access in order to participate in the sessions.
