This course will be taught by a Capital Wine School instructor via Zoom or Cisco WebEx on November 30, December 7 & 14 from 6:30pm – 9:30pm with a practice exam on January 4 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm. The final exam is January 18, 2022 at 3:30pm at the Capital Wine School; The exam is included in the registration fee.

This course covers tasting technique, Port, Sherry, Madeira, fortified Grenache and Muscat, and other fortified wines of the world. Students will gain an understanding of how grape growing, winemaking, maturation, wine law and wine business influences the style, quality and price of the principal fortified wines of the world. The exam is 90 minutes and consists of an assessment of 3 wines tasted blind, and multiple-part open response theory questions.

The course fee includes three class sessions, practice exam, wine samples, and the Unit D5 Examination at Capital Wine School. This course is for existing WSET Diploma candidates only.

Wine samples will be available for pickup curbside by appointment at the Capital Wine School on November 29, 2022 between 12:00pm – 5:00pm. There will be a follow up pickup date for the practice exam samples on January 3, 2023 between 12pm – 5pm. Students who request shipping of their wine samples will receive and need to pay for these two separate shipments.

Important Note regarding the exam:

• Students register for this course on or before November 5, 2022 will be automatically enrolled in the January 18 exam. Students who cannot attend the exam on January 18 and wish to defer must let us know by November 5; after this date the exam fee will be forfeited and any rescheduling will incur a new exam fee of $325.00.
• Students who register for this course after November 5 are not eligible to take the exam on January 18. The next opportunity to take the exam will be June 7, 2023 at 3:30pm.

Wine sample/study guide pickps: Please make a note of the wine sample pickup date mentioned above, as it will not appear on your registration confirmation. We cannot accommodate requests for wine sample pickups in advance of the date/times mentioned above. Students who are unable to come to the school to pick up their wine samples may have their materials shipped to them for an additional shipping fee – please email info@capitalwineschool.com for more information. Requests for shipping must be received no later than 7 days before the first scheduled class. Finally, wine samples for those who request and pay for shipping will ship to arrive the day of the first scheduled class, and we cannot accommodate requests for earlier arrival.

Invitation to join course: Cisco Webex or Zoom invitations will be emailed the day of the first class.

*The Capital Wine School makes every effort to record each class and to make the recorded session available to participating students for up to one week after the scheduled class. While we have been able to successfully record these sessions for the vast majority of our classes, occasionally a technical glitch or human error will result in a failure to record some or all of a class. The Capital Wine School will not offer refunds or other concessions for classes that a student is unable to attend live, and for which a recorded session is unavailable due to an unexpected error. It is for this reason that we strongly encourage students to try to attend the live, online class session(s) as scheduled whenever possible.
