The Rhône region of France has been a quality wine producing region for over 800 years. In fact, the imprint of CDR was noted as far back as the 1700s. Much of the sommelier community focus of the region has been on the cru wines from a handful of well-known villages.
But the heart of the Côtes du Rhône and most of the production are the 171 village areas that make up the appellation. Côtes du Rhône Villages and Côtes du Rhône Villages with Geographical Names represent the little known gems that feature the diversity of the terroir.
