Champagne Lanson

Founded in 1760 by Francois Delamotte and inherited in 1798 by Nicolas Delamotte, a Knight of the Order of Malta, and family-run ever since, Lanson is one of the oldest Champagne Houses. For 257 years, our expert winemakers have been crafting Lanson champagne the traditional way. In December 1900, Queen Victoria awarded a Royal Warrant to Lanson, making it an official supplier to the Court of England. It was the first champagne house to be awarded this honor. The House continues to supply the Royal Household to this day. 2017 will mark the 40th anniversary of Lanson’s partnership with Wimbledon. As the official champagne supplier since 1977, Lanson is the only Champagne poured throughout the tournament.

Lanson owns 125 hectares of vineyard, as well as the prestigious Clos Lanson, a plot of just one hectare which dates to the 18th century and is the only remaining vineyard within the walled city of Reims. In addition to Lanson’s own vineyards, Lanson carefully selects its grapes from over 400 hectares located in the best Champagne crus. The grapes are sourced from 100 of the 320 total villages composing the Champagne appellation. More than 50% of all grapes come from Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages (vs. an average rate of 30%). As a sign of its strong roots in the vineyard, the House of Lanson also owns 4 pressing centers spread throughout the Champagne region: Verzenay, Dizy, Trépail, and Loches-sur-Ource.

Very rare in Champagne, Lanson’s non-vintage bruts are blended with a minimum of 30% reserve wines from at least 10 different harvests; this gives our wines a regularity in taste, an intense complexity, and a remarkable depth. Lanson champagnes, since its origins, are blended using a majority of Pinot Noir. Lanson completes its blendings with a minimum of 30% of Chardonnay, resulting in a balance between body and finesse.

Lanson keeps its non-vintage bruts for a minimum of 3 years, its Extra Age cuvées for 7 to 8 years, and its vintage cuvées for 10 years. After the ageing period, the wines are disgorged and kept for a further 6 months in the cellars. Lanson indicates the disgorging date on the back of every label to ensure transparency in the winemaking process. Thanks to our specific vinification process, Champagne Lanson wines can stand the test of time by age gracefully.

Tasting Selection

  Rose Label magnum

Lanson Rose Label is a blend of 53% Pinot Noir, 32% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier, from a number of crus and almost ten different years. Like Black Label, it is enhanced through a long maturation of at least three years in the cellar, including at least 6 months after disgorging.

Lanson Rose Label is a subtle wine with very fine bubbles. Its aromas of rose and fine fragrances of red fruits echo its pale pink color. The sensation is tender and long-lasting. It seduces with its unfaltering originality and a harmonious balance alternating between roundness and freshness.

Clos Lanson 2006 magnum 1.5L

Wines from Clos Lanson have rare, unique characteristics that have always appealed to Lanson Wine-Makers. In 2006, the decision was made to offer connoisseurs the eponymous Cuvée from this promising vintage. Clos Lanson is a vintage Champagne whose juice, which comes exclusively from the first pressing, is vinified for several months in oak barrels.

After lengthy ageing in cellars, a precious wine is obtained: radiant, rich and extremely elegant. In 2016, Hervé Dantan decided to release the 7,870 bottles of Clos Lanson 2006.

“Bold and ripe ... complemented by a silky texture and vibrant acidity ... 3 stars (his highest rating)” Peter Liem

Clos Lanson 2007 750ml

“Produced from a small walled vineyard close to the Lanson winery in Reims, this is a splendid wine. Its richness is balanced by the intense freshness and minerality of the Chardonnay, with apple and citrus flavors that still in the background. Now mature, this wine is ready to drink.” 97 points – Wine Enthusiast

 Green Label 750 ml

Lanson Green Label Champagne is produced using organic grapes grown exclusively on an estate vineyard at Verneuil, in the heart of the Marne valley. Committed to organic and biodynamic cultivation for many years, the vineyard is dedicated to protecting the ecosystem and respects the balance between soil, plants and humans. It is part of The House of Lanson’s overall approach to respecting the environment and follows a strict ecological logic the bottles are lightweight and the labels made of recycled paper. Inspired by nature, Lanson has chosen to combine the colour green with its distinctive emblem, the Lanson cross.

White Label magnum

The White Label blend places an emphasis on Chardonnay at 38%, Pinot Noir at 37% and Pinot Meunier at 25%, without using malolactic fermentation, in order to guarantee freshness and finesse. Its more marked dosage encourages the circulation of the garnish aromas for a new oenological experience.

The sensation of White Label is tender and delicate. The flavours of white fruits develop and add to its enduring character. The finish, with freshness and the silky minerality of chalk, affirms the Lanson signature. The partnered natural aroma reveals itself subtly.

Extra Age Brut Magnum

In order to continue a style that marries complexity with freshness, Lanson Extra Age Brut unites the exceptional characters of the grand millésime years of 2004, 2005 and 2006.

The harmony and balance, for which these years were chosen, enable the full expression of the power of the Pinot Noir picked from the best plots of Verzenay and Bouzy. The Chardonnays from the Côte des Blancs, Chouilly, Avize, Oger and Vertus, in all their diversity, add a touch of finesse.

Black Label Magnum

A combination of 50% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier, from numerous crus selected by the Winemaker and from almost ten different years. Lanson Black Label is further enhanced by three years resting in the cellar, including 6 months following disgorging, at which point it reaches perfect maturation. Lanson Black Label is a balanced alliance of power and elegance, freshness and complexity. It has the taste of spring and subtle hints of long-lasting honey-dew. Notes of ripe and citrus fruits give a sensation of lightness and fullness with a long, fresh finish. Black Label is perfect as an aperitif and a call to celebration.
