ABOUT IVO VARBANOV
Ivo is a leading figure of Bulgarian music and culture abroad. His performances include concertos, recitals, and chamber music in more than 20 countries in three continents.

Career highlights include multiple performances at the Royal Festival Hall; Wigmore Hall; Cadogan Hall; and St. John’s Smith Square in London; Carnegie Recital Hall in New York; Bulgaria Concert Hall in Sofia; Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg; and the Freeman Concert Hall in Manchester.

He started to play the piano at the age of six in his hometown with Eleonora Karamisheva. He studied with Riccardo Bertazzolo and with the renowned Hungarian teacher Ylonka Deckers in Italy.

After his graduation at the age of 20, he came to England to work with Sulamita Aronowsky at the RNCM in Manchester and with Frank Wibaut at the Royal Academy of Music, completing his postgraduate studies in 1998 (on a Rotary Foundation Scholarship).

He has been leading masterclasses at the Bulgarian National Music School in Sofia; at the Hochschule für Musik Luzern in Switzerland; and at the Radom National Music School in Poland. In recent seasons he has been collaborating in chamber music concerts with his wife Fiammetta Tarli and the Russian pianist Konstantin Lifschitz (two pianos/four hands).

After an enforced stop from performing 2009–2012 due to leukemia, Ivo returned to the stage with impressive performances at the Royal Festival Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; King’s Place in the Brahms Unwrapped season; and at Cadogan Hall.

He is a recipient of the Ivan Vazov Award for the popularisation of Bulgarian Culture abroad. In 2011 he was awarded the Silver Lion Award from the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

IVO VARBANOV WINES
In addition to his distinguished music career, Ivo is also a wine estate owner in South Sakar in his native Bulgaria.

He says, “Our long-lasting vision is to establish the ultimate Bulgarian wines in one of the finest wine regions in the world, capable of producing Grand Cru quality wines. South Sakar we believe has great potential and a unique terroir. Our dream is to see a Bulgarian wine on a par with wines from the best sites in the world.”

Ivo sells his wines in Bulgaria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Poland, the UK, and the USA, including to several 3-Michelin-starred restaurants.
