What:
On Thursday, April 2nd at 7 pm, we will be hosting our inaugural live in-home virtual blind tasting! Our resident Master Sommelier candidate Pat Peterson will be going through three reds and three whites in the 25-minute exam style one would encounter at the Master Sommelier exam! Pat will have no idea which wines we’re tasting as Kelly from “A Cork in the Road” is picking the wines and Will from Portovino Italian imports is on duty as official double-secret quality control.
We will be live-streaming this tasting on Zoom and Instagram so you can taste along at home. The tasting will start with a few minutes of discussion about the deductive process while everyone logs in, followed by 25 straight minutes of advanced deductions and descriptors and will conclude with the big reveals and discussion!
Packs of two, four, and all six bottles, wrapped with numbered labels to maintain anonymity, will be available to purchase starting Tuesday evening. The blind packages will also be available to purchase after the event to enjoy along with a recording of the event.
A portion of proceeds from wine sales will go to supporting the Wahoo! Grill staff while they are unable to work.
Prices on these packages are subject to fluctuate slightly as we nail down the wines for this Thursday, but here is how the packages will work:
All packs will be evenly split evenly with red and white wine.

We will be gathering information as you purchase packages and will be sending out more communications regarding how and when to log in to the streams. This will hopefully be the first of many at home tasting opportunities brought to you by the WW&P Team!
A little more background on why we decided to do this:
A large part of the Sommelier examination process is deductive tasting, and it happens to be one of the more interesting and elusive portions of the journey. Our sommelier, Pat, has successfully gone through three of the exams and is an Advanced Sommelier. He is also now considered as a Master Sommelier candidate by the Court of Master Sommeliers. The exam format you should expect on Thursday is as follows: With six glasses in front of the candidate, one has 25 minutes to verbally deduce down 3 classic white wines and 3 classic red wines to the climate, country, region, grape, style, quality level and vintage through describing the sight, smell, taste, and structure of each wine. Each candidate gains point for correctly describing the classic markers found in each section. Pat has found people enjoy watching sommeliers take down blind wines in the quick-paced exam format and would like to share the journey with everyone stuck at home right now!
