Take a break from the Coronavirus quarantine and explore Italian wine in this online lecture series focused on ancient Roman winemaking and its legacy in Italian wine today. This series is meant to be a seriously informative and fun way to stay connected, and engage in the joy of learning together during these isolating times. There is no exam, and no pressure!
In the first segment of the series you will learn about wine in Ancient Roman society: what it meant to people, what viticulture and winemaking techniques they used, and we will imagine what it tasted like!
We will explore examples of ancient grapes and winemaking techniques still in use today to make many modern wines of Italy that you already know. In the second and third segments we will look closely at the wines of Campania and Sicily, and investigate the legacy of ancient Roman wine culture, alive and well in the modern wines of these regions.
