Red Wines from California
Wednesday, February 5th
Trapp Family Lodge Wine Cellar
“If California is not at present the favourite grape-growing
country of the world, it is certainly destined to attain that rank,
and also to become one of the most extensive .”
Ben Truman, New York Times, 1868
The state and their wines have come a long way since then, if not fulfilling Truman’s prediction to the letter then certainly doing so in spirit.
California encouraged the broad-spread popularity of wine throughout the U.S.A.
Latitude is less important in California than what lies between a given vineyard and the Pacific Ocean, these varied geographical features go a long way to explaining the varied and wonderful microclimates vineyards in California enjoy.
