The Vipava Valley has always been known as a wine-growing region . For centuries wine growing has been deep-rooted in this small valley based on tradition . In addition to numerous well-known Vipava Valley wine varieties , there is one variety that always stood out from others and it is the classic white blend , for more than 400 years called " VIPAVEC " .
Primoz Lavrenčič – a past university lecturer and researcher – runs the Burja estate at the eastern end of the narrow Vipava Valley and has been praised for his dedication and promotion of traditional winemaking in Vipava Valley. His Burja Bela is the core and heart production, based on the former glory of the Vipavec that usually comprises Malvazija, Rebula and Laški Rizling. Burja’s version, Burja Bela, has 30% of each plus 10% from other varieties, such as Zelen and Pinela – it’s a field blend from Primož’s two oldest vineyards. Ravno brdo over 20 years old and Stranice over 60 years old, different vines growing side by side.
