Weekly Wine Tasting
Saturday, November 16th from 1-4pm

with Matthew Barcewicz of Skurnik Wines

Margaine Brut N.V. $46.99
Arnaud Margaine’s NV Brut Premier Cru is gorgeous. White flowers, crushed rocks and green pears literally jump from the glass in this beautifully delineated, energetic Champagne. Vivid, crystalline and beautifully layered, the Premier Cru impresses for its balance and exceptional overall harmony. This is a great effort in its peer group.

Selbach Oster Riesling Kabinett 2017 $19.99
Predominantly from the Zeltinger Himmelreich, the 2017 Riesling Kabinett is bright and subtle on the ripe, fruity, slightly mineral and herbal, very elegant and refined nose with its delicate slate aromas. Salty-piquant and fresh on the aromatic and fruity but lithe and crystalline palate, this is another Mosel Kabinett at its best. The sweetness of less than 30 grams per liter is just charming here, where it is combined with 9.5% alcohol. This is a highly stimulating, fresh and grippy Kabinett.

Pierre Girardin Pommard 2017 $59.99
Sourced from the two Lieu Dit ‘Les Cras’, ‘La Chaniere’ the vines are over 60 years old and provide extra concentration and depth. The fruit is fresh and bright with raspberry, red cherry, potpourri, blackberry on the mid with cassis. The fruit is in perfect balance with the earthy savory notes that are common in red Burgundy. 100% de_stemmed with 25% new oak. This can be enjoyed now, but it is very capable of aging for a decade plus.

Piaggia Carmignano Riserva 2015 $39.99
The 2015 Carmignano Riserva Piaggia is another flat-out gorgeous wine from the Vanucci family. Bright, lifted and wonderfully focused, the 2015 has so much to offer. Red berry fruit, rose petal, mint, sage and anise all add layers of nuance, but the 2015 is one of the wines where everything just works. Alluring in its beauty. The Riserva is a wine of pure and total class that balances fruit richness and energy, as the best Piaggia wines do so eloquently these days.

Extra Special Saturday tasting from 4:30-7:30pm
featuring
Owner/Winemaker Pablo de Simon of Rioja's Bodegas Valseranno

Crianza 2015 $15.99
Solid berry and cherry aromas include mild but helpful spice notes. This crianza from a good vintage is smacking, fresh and true to the classic Rioja style. Flavors of plum and berry include vanilla, spice and cocoa notes prior to a long finish that's dry, peppery and strapped with acidity.

Reserva 2014 $23.99
Creamy attack, then a full flavour as it passes over the palate, with  the  tannins  well  integrated  with  the  acidity,  creating  a  pleasant, tasty structure. In retro olfaction it is powerful, clean and profound, with nuances recalling the sensations enjoyed on the nose.

Gran Reserva 2011 $39.99
Ruby-red with good depth and little sign of evolution. Intense, with reminders of minerals (graphite) and truffles and dark-berried fruit. When you swirl the wine in the glass nuances of cedar, white leather and minerals come through with hints of peat and gunpowder. Complex, fresh and long. Subtle, silky tannins. Returning hints of minerals, peat and heathland. A long, complex, lively aftertaste. Woody aromas of vanilla complement ripe black-fruit scents. This wine feels dry, comport-ed, mildly tannic and nicely structured. Flavors of cherry and blackberry are accented by oaky notes of vanilla and toast, while hints of baking spic-es lurk around the edges. A dry, classy, well-oaked finish seals the deal on this excellent Rioja.

Graciano 2015 $29.99
Cherry red with good depth, full of life and no sign of evolution. Nuances of moss, blueberries and  blackberries. Swirled in the glass, reminders of organic minerals appear with underlying graphite, blackberries and blueberries. Long, fresh and flavorsome in the finish, with reminders of graphite, white pepper and wild berries.
