Completely overshadowed by its neighbor Bordeaux (arguably the most prestigious appellation in the world) the wine regions of southwest France are incredibly diverse, sprawled across 120,000 acres. Despite its expanse, this area of France’s least populated, with only 10 residents per square mile! This region is internationally famous for Armagnac, but also offers a plethora of wonderfully unique wines made from native grape varieties grown on singular unique terroirs. We’ll emphasize small but established appellations like Madiran (where the Tannat grape reigns), Bergerac, Cahors (the ancestral home of Malbec), and Côtes de Gascogne (blends of Colombard, Ugni Blanc, Sauvignon, and Gros Manseng). We might even throw in a Cognac to finish in style!
