It’s time another Dave’s Faves Free Wine Tasting! The Dave I’m referring to is David Staples, the super nice fella who pours you wine every Saturday.

David says, “I love when Josh lets me pick the tasting wines and this week we’re going outside of the box and around the world to bring you some delicious and affordable under the radar options. Many of the best values in wine come from off the beaten path places or lesser known grape varietals. Plus they are fun to try so let’s take a little viticultural adventure together!” Taste, learn, and save every Saturday at Table Wine.

Asheville’s Best Free Wine Tasting – Just stop by – we’ve got plenty of free parking!

ALL FEATURED TASTING WINES ARE 20% OFF BY THE BOTTLE ON TASTING DAY ONLY!!

1. 2018 Domaine Vetriccie Île de Beauté Blanc (Corsica, France) – This 50/50 blend of Vermentino and Chardonnay hails from the beautiful, windswept isle of Corsica. It’s like sunshine in a bottle – bright, fresh and clean with lively notes of citrus peel, fresh herbs and mineral. Pairs nicely with seafood or lighter Mediterranean fare!

2. 2017 Hunky Dory ‘Tangle’ White Blend (Marlborough, New Zealand) – An off dry blend of German/Alsatian varietals from New Zealand? Why not! Made by the folks at Huia from organic, estate grown Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Riesling, this lip-smacker abounds with aromas and flavors of honeysuckle, jasmine, quince, mixed citrus, spiced apple and lychee. Exotic and delicious!

3. 2016 Rickshaw Pinot Noir (North Coast, California) – We find that many California Pinot Noir wines around this price point are cloyingly fruity and flabby. Rickshaw’s version however is elegant and balanced with layers of kirsch, black cherry, wild herbs, dried leaf and baking spices from the kiss of French oak. This expressive, savory wine is very food friendly too so bring on the seared Salmon!

4. 2016 Tenuta Sant Antonio ‘Scaia’ Rosso (Veneto, Italy) – This crowd pleasing, full bodied red is 100% Corvina from a family run estate near Verona. As the main grape in Valpolicella blends, Corvina makes wines that are plush and swimming with ripe red and black berries, rose petals, peppery spice and soft tannins. It’s ideal for cocktail hour or as a go-to house wine so stock up!

5. 2017 Bodega Garzón Reserva Tannat (Maldonado, Uruguay) – Originally from South Western France, the Tannat grape was brought to Uruguay during the 19th century by settlers from the Basque country in Spain. Now it’s their national grape of choice and Tannat’s dark, chewy wines go perfectly with the other local specialty – beef! The Garzón Reserva is a fine example with classic plum and berry fruit flavors, spice, mineral and ripe tannins.
