The FOUND:RE Phoenix Hotel, located at 1100 North Central Avenue, announces its latest monthly exhibit to be unveiled on Friday, September 6 in conjunction with Downtown Phoenix’s First Friday Artwalk. Featuring two local artists,Mark Mayz and David Lizanetz, that both incorporate a little rock and roll and music themes into their masterpieces, the exhibit, dubbed Pick and Play, will be on display through Monday, September 30.
Music lover and artist David Lizanetz, owner of Sour Apple Gallery in the Northwest Valley, will be displaying nine pieces of his music-themed art that showcase his experimentation with different styles and media including painting over CDs and records, and combining 3D elements of music media. He incorporates recycled old scratched vinyls and worn out cassettes into his art, which also include space and UFO themes. This is his first time displaying work at the FOUND:RE.
Abstract artist Mark Mayz combines his passion for sports and music into unique and unusual pieces of art such as portraits of rock guitarists and other images using acrylic paint on guitar picks. Though he’s been drawing all his life, he began working with and painting a rock and roll band, The Black Moods, at the age of 30. His works are inspired by both sports figures such as Michael Jordan and artists like Leroy Neiman; through his art, he hopes to encourage other artists to execute their own original and creative ideas.
The show will open on Friday, September 6 with an artists’ meet and greet from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Both artists’ display pieces and others will be available for purchase that evening and throughout the exhibit.
