Finally, the W Bar will feature a tasting of whiskies from the renowned Kavalan Distilllery, voted the Number One Distillery of the Year in the 2018 San Francisco Wolrd Spirits Competition. The Kavalan Brand Ambassador, Jonathan Kleinbart, will be making a rare appearance to introduce you to these famous and sought-after Taiwanese single malts. This is a very special opportunity. About Kavalan: Kavalan is a relatively new distillery - established in 2005 by the Tien-Tsai Lee, founder of the King Car Group. a beverage corporation who had always dreamed of making top quality single malt whisky in Taiwan. He and his family set up the distillery in the beautiful county of Yilan and named it "Kavalan" after the old name for the county. Interestingly, Taiwan's subtropical climate, along with the clean water and pure air of Yilan, are ideal for whisky production.
Kavalan Whiskies: Unlike similarly-priced Scottish single malts that require at least 12 years of barrel aging to reach top quality, Yilan's warm and humid conditions can speed up the aging process to half, or less, of the time.
Kavalan's water is clean and fresh - drawn from the springs of the nearby Snow Mountain and Central Mountains, one of the reasons Kavalan Whisky tastes so good!
King Car Group applies the same techniqes from years of coffee grindng to crush the malt, and then uses a double distillation method with pot stills for optimum flavor. The choicest cuts of the distillations (hearts) are casked for maturation which is what makes Kavalan whiskies extra special. They are then blended by Ian Chang, Kavalan's world-class master blender. When the whiskies have reached their full maturity, the pure Kavalan water is added to create the appropriate amount of alcohol for various expressions and then bottled at peak perfection.
The whiskies have won numerous awards and have garnered great press.
