Summary

On this 10-day gastronomy and wine adventure to Oporto in Portugal and Galicia in Spain, you will visit some of the best wineries of the region. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to sail on a private boat to beautiful Cies Islands, take Galician cooking class in Quinta de San Amaro, explore Galicia’s astonishing history, try tapas in Vigo and indulge in authentic Spanish food and wines. 

You will visit some of the best wineries in Gaia-Porto and savor some of their excellent Port wines. Also, join a Porto food tour and taste traditional Portuguese food. Our tours of historic downtown Porto are guided by a native who will take you on a unique city adventure.  

After an amazing three days in Northern Portugal, you’ll leave for Galicia – North Spain, where you are going to visit prominent Albariño wine region, learn about the Galician Celtic origins and admire remarkable Celtic ruins of Santa Tecla.  

You will also have the opportunity to explore Cies Islands that are considered one of the best beaches in the world and to visit Santiago de Compostela, the capital of Galicia whose historical center has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Enjoy a spectacular and unique travel experience at your own pace, driving along the beautiful coasts of these two incredible countries. 

Itinerary

Day 01 – Tuesday - Porto-Arrival

Arrival to Porto and pick up car rental. Drive to your four star boutique hotel and check in.

Day 02 – Wednesday - Porto

After breakfast, you will visit several wineries in Gaia-Porto and taste some of their wines. All entrances and wine tastings are included. A guide will meet you at each winery to lead the tour.  Enjoy lunch on your own and take some time to walk around.

Day 03 – Thursday - Porto

After breakfast, you’ll will have a vintage food tour where you will taste traditional Porto cuisine, the best of the past that the city has to offer today on this 3.5 hour guided walking food tour of historic downtown Porto. Guided by a Porto native, you will be led on an exploration of the renaissance the city is currently experiencing. From the rebirth of specialty food shops, to the new restaurants adopting old ways, to traditional buildings finding new purposes, this tour is ideal for enjoying the the best of the past with a modern twist.  

In the afternoon we recommend a visit to the contemporary art center and gardens at the Serralves Foundation.

Day 04 – Friday - Porto-Vigo

After breakfast, you will drive to Galicia-North Spain.  

On the way, you can stop at the beautiful town of Vilanova de Cerveira on the border with Spain for a nice cup of Portuguese coffee. You’ll then cross the border to visit an Albariño winery (entrance and tasting included) followed by lunch (on your own) at a nice local restaurant.  

After lunch, you can visit the impressive Celtic ruins of Santa Tecla, where you’ll learn about the Galician Celtic origins and admire the views from the very top of the mountain. You’ll drive to Vigo in the evening and if you like, have dinner at the hotel’s restaurant on arrival.

Day 05 – Saturday - Vigo

After breakfast, get your sailing clothes on to spend a full day sailing to Cies Islands, part of the Natural Park of Islas Atlanticas and voted one of the best beaches in the world. Once on the island, you can hike to the lighthouse on your own followed by a seafood lunch. You will then have time off to enjoy the beach. 

Once back in Vigo, you’ll join a group tour for a delicious tapas tour for dinner.

Day 06 – Sunday - Albariño wine region-O Salnés

After a morning off in Vigo to explore the city and do some shopping, you can drive to Albariño wine region. On arrival, you’ll check at a charming boutique hotel. You’ll have free time to rest and a dip in the pool. You’ll have dinner at the hotel restaurant.

Day 07 –  Monday - Albariño wine region-O Salnés

You’ll kick off the day early in the morning today. After breakfast, put on some rubber boots and discover a shellfishing activity in Ria de Arousa. From the hand of a professional shellfish picker (“mariscadora”), you’ll get to know the daily life of this traditional and admired profession. You will learn different extraction methods of bivalves (clams, cockles, etc.), different arts they use, how to differentiate the various species that are traded, everything related to the production, harvesting and selling.

Time off for lunch on your own. ​

After lunch, you’ll visit an Albariño winery in a former Pazo, “Pazo Baión”, walk among the vineyards and have a tasting to end the visit. When you arrive at the hotel, put on your cooking gloves and aprons for our traditional Galician cooking class at the hotel. From the hand of a local cook, you will learn how to cook “empanada”, Galician octopus and other traditional dishes of Galician cuisine. You’ll have dinner on what you have prepared together with exquisite local wines.

Day 08 – Tuesday - Ribeira Sacra-Mencia Wine Region

In the morning, after breakfast, you’ll leave the Albariño wine region and set off to Ribeira Sacra wine region. 

On arrival to our accommodation, a beautiful “Pazo” and old Manor House, you’ll go visit two wineries of the area, where you’ll have a wine tasting and lunch in one of them followed by a special boat ride along the Canyons of the River Sil. 

In the evening, you can take some time to walk around the “Miradores” to see the Canyons from above. Dinner will be back at our hotel.​

Day 09 –Wednesday - Ribeira Sacra-Mencia Wine Region​

In the morning, after breakfast, you’ll change the sceneries to the River Miño, and discover the amazing town of Belesar, where you can stop for lunch on your own at an old winery by the river. 

Back on the road, you’ll go from Belesar to the Abadia da Cova winery where you can taste their famous Godello and Mencia wines, and all of this, looking over the “Cabo do Mundo” meander.

Day 09 – Thursday - Santiago de Compostela

After breakfast, you’ll drive to Santiago de Compostela, where you’ll visit the famous city and capital of Galicia. A place where every year millions of people arrive from all over the world, many of them from the spiritual trail of “Camino de Santiago”. Its historical center has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. 

After checking into the hotel, the famous Parador “Hostal de los Reyes Católicos” you will have the rest of the day off to explore the city and later join a great tapas tour around the Old Town where you will visit the Cathedral and the famous Market.

Day 10 – Friday - Santiago de Compostela-Porto

After breakfast, drive to Porto and car rental drop off. End of our services.
