Tonight we’ll explore the ‘Blood of Jove’ grape in all its expressions, from delicate and floral to deep and bold. The grape’s signature stamp includes notes of dried cherry, black tea, dusty earth, citrus peel, Mediterranean herbs and a unique tension between acidity and tannin. Though grown outside Tuscany, the magnificence of this noble red varietal is virtually exclusive to this most picturesque region in central Italy. We’ll travel throughout Chianti, Montepulciano (Vino Nobile) and Montalcino (Brunello), and then head to coastal Maremma, hot bed of the on-going Super-Tuscan movement. We’ll showcase classic producers as well as outliers. Comprehensive Sangiovese by anybody’s measure!
