Taste Sensational - The Inn at Herr Ridge by Lynne Beeson
It’s your last chance! Almost sold out. Don’t miss this unique wine and food pairing event Sunday afternoon, September 29, 1:30 p.m. at the historic Inn at Herr Ridge, 900 Chambersburg Road (Rt 30), Gettysburg. Noted for fine dining experiences, the Inn also offers a rooftop panoramic view of the Gettysburg Battlefields. We will begin our Sunday afternoon with a greeting wine for sipping while strolling the historic inn property. We will enjoy a very interesting, high altitude grown, sparkler from Domaine Bousquet in Argentina. Shortly after, we'll gather to enjoy four sensational food and wine pairings designed by Sommelier Brad Doerr and Chef Colby Becker. Those are as follows:
First Course - Cantaloupe Basil Shrimp Salad Lemon Vinaigrette paired with La Tunella Pinot Grigio
Second Course - Pan Seared Sea Scallop Cauliflower Volute Rice Wine Vinegar Pickled Carrots paired with Pewsey Vale Dry Riesling
Third Course - House Smoked Teres Major with Pom Frites Chimichurri paired with Cantena Mablec
Fourth Course - Lemon Poppy Seed Short Cake with Strawberry Compote Lemon Mascarpone paired with Ceretto Santo Stefano Moscato d’ Asti
Chef Becker joined the Inn at Herr Ridge in 2016, in a Sous Chef role. His talent was immediately evident, and after a year and a half he was promoted to Executive Chef and commenced making the Tavern menu his own. The Inn recognizes Chef Becker as, “Constantly thinking creatively to place great new items on our menu. Colby enjoys using local, fresh ingredients for the best flavors. He has a passion for up-and-coming cuisine and it shows in all he does.”
Sommelier Doerr began his palate-pleasing career with the “everybody likes" fun food, ice cream. He worked high school summers at a NC beach town Dairy Queen. He soon was promoted to manager, and later bought the franchise, and then another! Winters spent in Park City, however, is where he found wine. He found himself working Inn some very nice restaurants with even nicer wine lists, and patrons who knew fine wines. He was introduced to great wines, invited by patrons to join an exclusive tasting club, and his passion for pairing fine wine with great food ignited. Sommelier credentials soon followed.
Sommelier Doerr has provided customized fine dining and wine experiences for us and friends at the Inn. I really wanted to share the experience with you, so worked through two planning seasons to get this event on the PWS program agenda. Brad’s passion for wine and food instantly engages.
