Alsace enjoys more sunny days than any other wine region in France. To the west, Alsace is flanked by the Vosges Mountains, which protect the region from the harsher weather patterns brought across the country by the Gulf Stream. To the east, the Rhine River keeps the temperatures moderate, creating the ideal breeding ground for grape varietals like Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir—in sparkling, dry and sweet styles alike. This historical crossroads between France and Germany creates wines that represent a wonderful blend of both cultures’ wine styles. This tasting focuses on some of our current favorites here at the store. One taste is all it takes to realize that Alsatian wines need no special occasion. They are both immensely food-friendly and delicious entirely on their own!
