A Casual and Intimate Tasting Celebrating the Artisanal Gems of Bordeaux

Zachys DC is pleased to present an exploration of the benchmark vintages in the making – 2015 and 2016 from Bordeaux. This unique tasting experience will examine the more artisanally produced gems of the region. Guests will have the unique opportunity to taste the ripe and sexy 2015s alongside a special and newly released 2016, as well as gain insight into the current 2018 Bordeaux En Primeur. 2018 is the third great vintage in four years from the epicenter of wine and combines the ripeness of 2015 with the structure and tannins of 2016.

Throughout the evening, guests will have the opportunity to taste these young vintages and learn about this great trilogy (2015-2016-2018) in the making. The event will include prized wines such as the illustrious Cheval Blanc. And it does not end there – the great names of Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Montrose, Les Carmes Haut-Brion are all in this special lineup to provide a range of wines that has made Bordeaux a beloved winemaking destination.

This intimate tasting will be held at Zachys private event space in Washington DC for what promises to be a memorable evening of wine and conversation. Guests will experience these limited production gems while having access to these wines at the best prices in the country – just part of what makes Zachys different. For 75 years we have been tasting and educating collectors and enthusiasts on fine wines – and it begins with Bordeaux.

Note: There will be a curated selection of meats and cheeses to complement the wines.

Featured Wines:

2014 Château Cheval Blanc

97 Points, Wine Spectator: "This has dreamy aromas already, with notes of Lapsang souchong tea, smoldering cigar and cold charcoal wafting up from the core of dense yet supple currant, fig and blackberry preserves. A loamy edge thumps through the finish, giving this an addictive, head-bobbing bass line. Best from 2026 through 2040." 3/17

2015 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc

95 Points, Lisa Perotti-Brown, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: "The Domaine de Chevalier 2015 Blanc is composed of 75% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Sémillon, fermented in barrel (35% new), and aged for 18 months on the lees with stirring. It opens with lovely lemon tart, fresh grapefruit and pineapple with a waft of honeysuckle. The medium-bodied palate is very tightly knit with wonderfully crisp acid and a citrusy finish." 2/18

2015 Château Les Carmes Haut Brion

97 Points, James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com: "Very polished and poised with an immensely powerful core of tannin that drives incredible length on the palate. Fruits are deep in the dark-berry spectrum, encapsulating a terrific sense of freshness through the finish. Great wine. Try from 2024." 2/18

2015 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

96 Points, James Suckling,www.jamessuckling.com: "Swathed in spicy and toasty oak aromas, this has a wealth of superbly expressed red and dark berries, flowers and mint. The palate delivers a very assertive and energetic array of dark berries and spiced plums with a fresh, focused, vibrant finish. Superb wine. Try from 2023." 2/18

2015 Château Montrose

95 Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Montrose opens with broody black fruits, menthol and anise notes with a core of cassis, blueberries and mulberries plus a touch of cedar chest. The medium-bodied mouth is firm and chewy with a good core of muscular fruit and a long, earthy finish." 2/18

2015 Château Barde Haut

95 Points, James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com: "Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, wet earth and black tea. Full-bodied, dense and layered with medium, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows focus and power. Needs three or four years to start coming together." 2/18.

2016 Château Barde Haut

94+ Points, Jeb Dunnuck, www.jebdunnuck.com: "Incorporating 20% Cabernet Franc, the Merlot-dominated 2016 Château Barde Haut is one of the darker colored wines in the lineup. It offers a Grand Cru Burgundy-like purity and elegance as well as beautiful cassis and darker fruits, smoked earth, black cherries, and damp earth aromas and flavors. This medium to full-bodied, balanced, yet tight, backward, pure effort needs a solid 5-7 years of cellaring to round into form, but it's beautifully balanced and packed with potential." 2/19

2015 Château Clerc Milon

95 Points, James Suckling,www.jamessuckling.com: "Extremely floral with blackberry and blueberry character plus hints of violets. Full-bodied yet always in check and reserve with fine tannins and bright acidity that goes on for minutes. Limestone undertones. The finish is particularly long this vintage. Super Clerc. Try in 2021." 2/18

2015 Château Sociando-Mallet

93 Points, James Suckling,www.jamessuckling.com: "Some graphite and toasted spicy fruits, which create an impressive opening. Iodine and dark berries follow. The palate has a similarly spicy start, which builds waves of fine, ripe tannins that hold impressively fresh and deep. Try from 2022." 2/18

2015 Château Suduiraut

97-98 Points, James Suckling,www.jamessuckling.com: "A phenomenal white with dried fruits such as apricots and mangos. Masses of bortrytis spice. Full body yet agile and bright with incredible lightness and delicacy. So much cherry blossom too. Small white flowers. Medium sweet. Ginger. Great finish." 04/16

2010 Château Beychevelle

95 Points, James Suckling, jamessuckling.com: “Beautiful aromas of blackberries, currants and flowers. Very aromatic. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and gorgeous fruit. It's polished and very refined. One of the best Beychevelles in years.” (2/2013)

2015 Domaines de Cambes

The terroir of Domaine de Cambes is the part of Château Roc de Cambes lying immediately beside the estuary of the Gironde which flows at the foot of the slope...The grape varieties are Cabernet Franc (40 %), Malbec (5 %), and Merlot (55 %). These must be approximations since the great age of the vines makes it hard to be precise about the exact percentages. The wines are concentrated, with good depth of fruit, and very well structured, albeit lighter than those of Roc de Cambes itself. It goes without saying that they will age well. - Producer Note
