You might also call this the “What were they thinking?” wine dinner if you like ... but if you join us at La Cote d’Or restaurant on May 15 and enjoy six wines imported by Ed Addiss paired with four dishes created by Chef Jacques Imperato ... we think you’ll realize we were thinking that there’s fun in mixing up the “rules” of wine and food a bit!
The “Unexpected” here is the set of wines – Cremant du Jura, Cotes du Forez, and Arbois Ploussard anyone? – and the way they’ll be served. We’ll start with a glass of something sparkling – normal enough. But then we’ll have a sweet Sauternes with our first course, a hearty red with the second, two neither red nor white wines with the third course and then, for fun, an unusual dry red with dessert!
Here’s the full menu and wine pairings:
Aperitif
Domaine de la Touraize Cremant du Jura 2016
Roquefort and walnut Tartelette, mâche salad,
Hazelnut and black peppercorn oil
Chateau La Clotte-Cazalis Sauternes 2011
Matelote d’anguille
Fried petite noisette potato, bacon, mushroom
Verdier-Logel, "Cuvee des Gourmets" Cotes du Forez 2018
Smoked marinated Cornish hen, grape fruit, orange tajine sauce
“Socca” the chick pea crêpe, grilled eggplant, zucchini, red pepper, tomato
Domaine Brana, "Harri Gorri" Irouleguy Rosé 2017
Domaine des Miquettes "Madloba Ambre" VDF 2015
Goat cheese, pink peppercorn ice cream
Hazelnut Success, figs and pomegranate sauce
Domaine de la Touraize, "La Cabane" Arbois Ploussard 2018
While the wines and some of the dishes are a little unusual, we’ve made sure you’ll get the delicious meal and fun time you’ve come to expect from our wine dinners at La Cote d’Or! The cost of the dinner is $89 per person inclusive of taxes and tip. La Cote d’Or Restaurant is located at 6876 Lee Hwy, Arlington, VA 22213, just off Rt. 66 and within walking distance of the East Falls Church Metro station. Parking is available next to the restaurant and along Westmoreland Street.
To attend, all you have to do is reserve your seats through the store. Email us at wineteam@cbcwine.com, call us at 703.356.6500 or stop by the store. But don’t delay – because while the wines and line-up are a bit “unexpected,” we definitely expect the evening to sell out!
