We had such a beautiful evening for our 23rd Lilac Party last year. A glass of wine in hand, many of our guests strolled through the Spring gardens beautifully maintained by the expert MCPC horticulture staff listening to the background piano music by Amir Mortezai who will perform again this year and enjoying the intoxicating scent of blooming lilacs in the air.
Here are some of our plans for this 24th Anniversary Party on Sunday, May 19th (and remember our 25th in 2020!):
Of course, the Ten of the University Glee Club will perform TWO performances. This incredible group of a cappella songsters, renown in the Somerset Hills, entertain with a unbelievable repertoire of varied musical genres guaranteed to get your feet tapping and your heart soaring. No two concerts are alike and if you missed them last year, each year they get better and better.
And once again, we have Andrea Maranca from Tewksbury Fine Wine & Spirits, Oldwick. She has chosen a selection of wines - reds, whites and rose - to entice your palate. Wine Tastings are a sensory examination of the flavors, aromas and general characteristics. Many of our guests have found "their special wine" with Andrea's assistance. So enjoy a few very special moments to develop and refine your wine tasting skills.
And lest you think we forgot, there are enticing and filling passed hors d'oeuvres plus a cheese table filled with veggies, hummus, crackers and breads, so we can assure you that you will not go hungry! If you are thirsty, choose a cocktail or beer or a cooling non alcoholic selection from one of our terrific mixologists.
Plants, Plants, PLANTS! You may not be an official "gardener" but you know what you like - the colors, the textures, the unusual for your garden or patio. Our silent auction features the best of the best from key suppliers with some very special surprises for the discerning plant connoisseur. A check or your credit card can be used for your treasures.
And this year, we have been able to obtain some very different varieties of Lilacs. Remember, each guest receives one as a gift from the Willowwood Foundation.
This lovely, memorable and traditional garden party is held under a tent (so rain or shine!) and is the only fundraiser by the Willowwood Foundation. Internships, scholarships, plantings both permanent and seasonal are funded for the Willowwood Arboretum with the proceeds.
WHAT to Wear? This question always comes up. As you know, Mother Nature can be a bit capricious. So on a warm Spring evening or a cool one - dress accordingly and wellies can be helpful if a bit of rain has made the grade damp. One suggestion for the ladies - flat shoes are easier on the garden paths and terrain. No jeans please for the men, but we don't require ties - unless you wear one of the lovely willow patterned vineyard vine ties available from the Willowwood Foundation. Just call 973-615-4841 to order. $65 each in a soft rose.
And a final note, the Willowwood Arboretum now has a no smoking policy on site.
