Long referred to as “Spain’s Bordeaux,” Rioja is one of the premier wine regions in Spain. The region shares many ties to France’s Bordeaux wine region, not the least of which is long aging in oak barrels.
In this Seminar, we will taste traditional wines from some of the region’s historical bodegas as well as examples of modern wines produced by winemakers testing the boundaries of Rioja’s DOCa regulations. As red wine makes up 90% of Rioja’s production, the Seminar will focus on reds, but we will taste at least one white Rioja as well, 6 wines in total. The class will be led by Celeste Bailey, WSET Level 3, Master of Rioja DOCa, Level 1 Court of Master Sommelier.
