Not really enjoying winter in the Northern Hemisphere? Had too much of your family for the holidays? Can't wait til summer for a vacation? Just want to get the hell out of dodge and go drink some wine? Well guess what, Heathen Wine Tours agrees and we're taking our first voyage to South America!
We will spend 6 days in some of the most beautiful coastal vineyards of Casablanca and some of the most old school wineries of Colchagua. As always we will spend time with the best in the country. Featured wineries include; Casa Marin, Villard, Amayna, Koyle, Clos Apalta, Casa Silva, and more. What could make this even better? Because of the opposite seasons in the Southern Hemisphere we will be there just in time for harvest! That's right we are crashing their party and the wineries are stoked about it. Trust me, they don't just let anyone through the doors when the juices are flowing!
Our trip will commence on Sunday, March 10th when our driver will pick us up at the Santiago airport to deliver us to our first stop and home for the next 3 nights the NOI Blend hotel in Colchagua http://www.noihotels.com/hotel/noi-blend/default-en.html For the next few days you will awaken to overlook the most beautiful vineyards in Chile. Monday we will voyage to Casa Silva where we will barrel sample with the winemaker and have lunch in the winery. That evening we will spend some free time in the beautifully quaint town of Santa Cruz. On Tuesday we will visit 2 more wineries (Koyle and Clos Apalta) and enjoy true old school winemaking and farming as represented by the wines and meals at the wineries. That evening we will pay a visit to Koyle winery for a tasting and dinner with their owner and winemaker. While in Colchagua we will dine in the home of Baron de Rothschild and visit the oldest cellars in the region.
Wednesday morning up and at em as our driver is taking us to Casablanca. We will break the drive with a visit to a minuscule winery making the best Grenache in South America, on the way to our home for the next 3 days Hotel Boutique Casablanca www.casablanca-bcw.com. Our next day will be spent at Villard with owner/winemaker Jean-Charles Villard, where Jean-Charles will take us through barrels, older wines and a lunch in the vineyards. That evening we’ll visit Amayna and their winemaker to be wowed with the best “newer styles” in Chile and traditional Chilean cuisine prepared by their grandmother. Friday on our final full day we will voyage to Casa Marin to hang out with one of the true pioneers of Casablanca. We’ll meet and enjoy the morning with Maria Luz Marin the first female winemaker/winery owner in Chile. After we will enjoy a 19th century carriage ride through Lo Arbarca and a “BBQ” in the vineyards.
Saturday we will drop everyone in Santiago airport in the city. Feel free to enjoy all the city has to offer or of course extend your trip before or after the tour. All in all we will visit no less than 7 world class wineries where we will have “backdoor access”. We’ll enjoy traditional cuisine cooked by grandmothers, the freshest seafood from the coast prepared by world class chefs and break bread and share wine with some of the greatest winemakers and winery owners in Chile and the world. All breakfast is included, as well as most lunches and dinners (there are a couple of meals you will be responsible for). Tastings are included, as is all transportation (airfare not included) and housing. As always I will be your host throughout the week and contact for any and everything. Our driver is a friend who is also bilingual and will remain with us the entire stay.
