A FEMINIST HISTORY OF MUSICAL THEATRE

Melissa McGuire is a Westchester County native who is thrilled to be a new resident of Stamford, CT after living in NYC for 22 years. After earning her bachelor's degree in musical theater from NYU in 2000, Melissa quickly became a regular actress on the Indie Theater scene in downtown Manhattan. From 2004-2009 she was responsible for writing, directing, performing, and producing sketch comedy with the 5-member team Slightly Known People (SKP) who had a weekly sold-out show at the popular comedy venue, RiFiFi. Following SKP's five year residency Mel decided to combine what she had learned from sketch comedy with her passion for musical theatre and immersed herself in the world of cabaret. She is best known for her autobiographical cabaret show Tinder Roulette which ran at the 13th Street Repertory throughout the fall of 2015 and received rave reviews. She is the host and creator of The Overshare Cabaret, an evolving performance party merging the art forms of cabaret, sketch comedy, and personal storytelling. For the last five years she has also been a member of The Dysfunctional Arts Collective where she created and headlined the educational performance experience I Heart Show-Tunes as part of the summer artist residency on Governors Island. www.sexloveandshowtunes.com

Lauren Gulliver Travers has been performing on stage for over 20 years. A graduate from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, Lauren enjoys singing an array of musical styles and has fronted bands specializing in jazz, soul, rock and pop, but her heart belongs to musical theatre. Favorite roles include both Mother and Emma Goldman in "Ragtime", Sister Mary Patrick in "Sister Act: The Musical", Saraghina in "Nine", Beggar Woman in "Sweeney Todd" and Alice Beale in "Titanic:The Musical".

Paulette Oliva is a singer, actor, musician – and Marketer… (It pays the bills) – She has appeared in over 40 productions, staged readings, and Cabarets.  Most recently she portrayed “Mrs. Potts” – in WPPAC’s Beauty and the Beast, and Mother Superior in Sister Act.  Off-Broadway she’s appeared in Fire, the Play, Return To Spoon River, and Barbicide.  Favorite roles include Diana, Next to Normal, Momma Rose, Gypsy, and Maria Callas, in Master Class – a theme perhaps? Strong women are her strong suit! Co-wrote, produced, and performed her cabaret show “Third Time’s a Charm” at The Duplex, NYC – Happy to be making her Magnolia Room debut with these lovely and talented women making feminist history of their own!  www.PauletteOliva.com
