Wine
The London Wine Competition looks to set a new benchmark for award-winning wines by assessing them for their quality, their value for their money and what they look like with their packaging and design.

The London Wine Competition will judge wines in three key areas:

-Quality

-Value for money

-Package and Design

To be an award winner you will need to have a top quality wine, that offers both the trade and the con- sumer great value for money, and you will need to look good and truly stand out on the shelf and on the back bar.

The judging will be conducted by panels of 3 or 5 and will include a mix of trade buyers and wine experts.

Every panel will include this mix, ensuring that the wine is not only judged by its quality but also its sellability.

Each panel will comprise of a minimum of one on-trade buyer, one off-trade buyer, and one wine expert.

London Wine Competition will be decided based on the following judging formula:

Q (QualityScore) + Value Score (V) + Packaging Score (P) = London Wine Competition Score.

Quality Score: will be marked out of 50 Value Score: will be marked out of 25 Package Score: will be marked out of 25

All wines entered will be handled by Sensible Wine Services and organized into flights for tasting. The wines will:

—Initially be tasted blind to determine its quality.

—Where appropriate they will also be assessed by variety, style, region, and country.

—Judges will then be given a briefing document setting out the wine’s price and target consumer and trade channel where it wants to be sold. Only then will judges be asked to give their score for quality based on the initial blind tasting and then additional knowledge about the wine’s price and market position.

—The judges will then be handed the bottle or format for them to be able to assess, in detail, the design, label, and packaging and determine how well that matches up to, or complements the quality of the wine and its price point.

—The judges will then discuss the wine as a whole to help allocate scores in the three judging areas.

Apart from Gold, Silver and Bronze, the London Wine Competition will have these other award categories:

Wine Of The Year Winery Of The Year

Best Wine of the Year by Quality Best Wine of the Year by Value Best Wine of the Year by Packaging

Best In Show Wine (By Country Category) Best In Show Wine (By Varietal Category)

Winners in the London Wine Competition will receive either a Gold, Silver or Bronze award and be supported by a strong consumer awareness campaign, particularly through social media channels and wine comparison apps, to promote this new global competition.
