Blackbird Vineyards takes a Bordeaux-style approach to wine production: Reliance on multi-sources vineyards and varietals, allowing for a harmonious whole, greater than the sum of its part. Since 1999, the Blackbird Vineyard (a former walnut orchard first planted with 5,717 Merlot vines in 1997), quietly provided fruit to many of Napa's finest winemakers.
Since the premier release with the 2003 vintage, Blackbird Vineyards' winemaking team has handcrafted truly expressive wines with a focus on the varieties of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Blackbird Vineyards' approach to winemaking involves intensive, hands-on, "best practice" techniques to achieve the highest representation of terroir in the age worthy wines. These efforts serve to achieve wines of great complexity, richness of fruit, and overall distinction.
Blackbird Vineyards partners with the most renowned cooperage houses from which the barrels are personally selected to meet their exacting requirements. During the aging process in these customized barrels, their wines acquire their full character and complexity.
Paul Leary joined Blackbird Vineyards, LLC as President in 2006. In the fall of 2008, Mr. Leary was instrumental in the launch of Ma(i)sonry Napa Valley, an art, wine and design collective in Yountville, CA. Leary’s continuous charge is to build the company’s brand equity and financial returns by ensuring product and service quality while spearheading niche sales & marketing strategies that create consumer demand in the direct and wholesale distribution channels. Leary is a current board director of the Napa Valley Vintners and an active member of the San Francisco Bay YPO Chapter.
