When I was living in Rome I was able to take trips all over to feed my lust for Italian wine. I knew that one day I would not be able to jump in a care and just drive to a producer that I looked up to so I took advantage of the time I have and visited loads of producers that I had read about, tasted and even emailed with back and forth. Once I tasted the wines....I knew it was all over.

Moccagatta is a producer I don't mention a lot to people...not for the lack of growing amazing grapes but mostly cause I'm greedy and want the wines for myself. With over 12 cases of Moccagatta wines in our home cellar...I hope you'll see why these wines are close to my palate.

2017 Moccagatta Langhe Chardonnay - A lovely, cool-climate expression of Chardonnay from a producer Piedmont’s esteemed commune of Barbaresco! Racy and mineral-driven, with plenty of acidity, flavors of crisp green apple, and a cool, stony finish. Reminiscent of good Chablis. Food Pairing Oysters, sushi and sashimi, roast poultry, cheese plates, crab cakes.

2014 Moccagatta Barbaresco - A broad, spicy style, displaying plum, earth and tar flavors, shaded by toast and vanilla notes. The firm structure shores up the finish as this winds down, echoing plum, tar and spice details.

2013 Moccagatta Barbaresco Cole - Black cherry, tar, tobacco and earth notes mingle in this chunky red. There are plenty of tannins for support and this finishes fresh, showing fine balance overall. Fruit, spice and iron accents grace the aftertaste.

2013 Moccagatta Barbaresco Bric Balin - Yum. Pretty blackberry and nutmeg aromas follow through to a full body, polished and chewy tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Loads going on here.

2015 Moccagatta Barbaresco Basarin - The 2015 Barbaresco Basarin is another super-concentrated wine from Moccagatta. The Basarin, from a sandy site in Barbaresco that tends to give more lifted wines, exudes a level of depth and intensity that I don't think I have ever seen before here. Plum, black cherry, new leather, lavender and violets are some of the signatures. The 2015 is a superb Basarin with a bright future.

As you can see...the queen of wines...i.e. Barbaresco, is something special...and these wines are truly a great compliment to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
