Dear Grapevine Friends,
I was surprised to see that the Grapevine hasn't tasted Merlot since January of 2011. Let's taste Merlot at the next Grapevine wine tasting on November 14th.
I needn't say much about this familiar varietal. It was one of the darlings of the wine world till a character in the 2004 film Sideways blasted it and sent US sales of Merlot tumbling. Sales have surged back and the wine is once again a world wide favorite.
As always, each taster will bring a bottle to the tasting. You may bring a bottle from any vintage, of any price, or any provenance as long as it consists of at least 50% Merlot. Don't be afraid to bring a bottle of 100% Merlot. Merlot can stand alone very well.
Our Merlot tasting will take place in the Berkeley City Club at 7pm on November 14th. Each guest will bring a bottle of Merlot. Reservations are necessary and must be made by Friday noon, November 9th. You may make reservations on Eventbrite.
BCC members pay $15 for the tasting; guests pay $20. If you have requests for seating, please let us know. If you make reservations but cannot attend, it is important that you let us know in advance.
