Southern Italy’s Standard Bearers with Michael Franz

2 hours • $85

Northern and central Italian wines remain more famous than their southern counterparts, but that has much more to do with the fact that the north of Italy is more prosperous and has more money for marketing and commercial development.  In terms of sheer quality, the south produces highly distinctive and indisputably delicious reds, especially from Campania and Sicily, but also from Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria.  And though it might seem that the white wines couldn’t be as good, cool microclimates in high altitude sites or proximate to cooling waters help the south make some of Italy’s very best whites from grapes such as Fiano, Greco, Falanghina, Catarratto, Carricante and Grillo.  This eye-opening evening will include a dozen of southern Italy’s best wines.
