Global Champagne Day Tasting
Fri, October 19, 2018 (4:00 PM - 7:00 PM)
Cost: $5
When you pop a bottle of Champagne...do you open the bottle with a small hiss like they teach us in Sommelier school or do you pop that sucker and make some noise? I say...make some noise! Global Champagne Day is upon us this Friday and we'll be popping some farmer fizz for you all. Katie and I will be on hand to talk shop, pour Champagne, laugh and have a good time. People still walk into the shop and tell me they need a wine to celebrate with...Champagne it is, but why wait for a celebration?
We've picked out 5 bottles of Champagne that are great for any celebration but do nicely for a Wednesday fizzy when you just wanna put your feet up and have a glass of Champagne.
Champagne Tribaut Blanc de Chardonnay - This mineral, floral cuvée, produced with 20% old Chardonnay vines from Aÿ, aged in foudres, exhibits aromas of toast and honey. It is a perfect foil for fish or a seafood platter.
Champagne Copinet Integral Brut Blanc de Blancs - This is by far one of the most impressive Champagnes I've had in a long time. Easy to drink yet complex enough for a true Champagne nerd to gulp down. This is one fine-ass grower Champagne.
Champagne Bernard Gaucher Brut NV - The classic of the house characterized by its fruity, freshness and regularity.
Champagne Tribaut Cuvée Rene - The Cuvée René, blended with 50 % reserve wines aged in large oak casks (foudres), reveals a lovely complexity with notes of brioche and hazelnut. Ideal as an aperitif or enjoyed with white meat.
2009 Champagne Copinet Monsieur Leonard Blanc de Blanc - Now approaching maturity although certainly not leaving its fruit behind, this is a fine structured wine. It has hints of toastiness as well as spice while keeping bright acidity and a tangy texture. The wine is rich still tense and ready to drink.
Get ready to pop some bottles!
