I:             Introduction to White Varietals

Sunday, October 28th, 2018  |  1:30-330PM

108 West 39th Street, Suite 903

Even the most experienced wine drinkers can struggle when trying to decipher neutral white wines, especially blind! Join us for an exploration of global white wines designed to train your palate and help you better understand what distinguishes the classic whites wines from Albarino from Zibbibo. We will briefly visit the fundamentals of wine tasting before tasting 14 distinct white varietals from around the world.

Wines include: Sonoma Chardonnay, Rias Baixas Albarino, Wachau Gruner Veltliner, Alsatian Pinot Gris, Italian Pinot Grigio, Burgundy 1er Cru, Vouvray Chenin Blanc, Rieslings from the Mosel and Australia, Viogner from the Northern Rhone, Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire and New Zealand, and Torrontes.

II:            Introduction to Red Varietals

Sunday, November 4th, 2018  |  1:30-330PM

108 West 39th Street, Suite 903

Single varietal wines are often written off because of their relative success in blends, but after this class, you’ll be able to identify and appreciate them all! Taste through the spectrum from light and refreshing reds to full bodied and hearty wines to keep you warm in the winter. A tasting technique refresher will begin the seminar before we learn what separates a St. Julien from a St. Joseph.

Wines include: Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, the Left Bank of the Medoc, Cabernet Franc from Chinon, Amarone, Cru Beaujolais, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Malbec, Napa Merlot, St. Emillion, Barolo, Chianti Classico, Burgundy 1er Cru, Sonoma Pinot Noir, Northern Rhone Syrah, Shiraz, Rioja, and Zinfandel.

III:           Tasting the Earth: Soils, Sun, Sites and the Meaning of Terroir

Sunday, November 18th, 2018  |  1:30-330PM

108 West 39th Street, Suite 903

Any high-level wine debate usually comes down to one mysterious word—terroir.  The term encompasses so many important facets that distinguish one fine wine from another, mysteriously and magically presenting to such an extent that the difference of just a few feet between vines is notable, apparent and celebrated!  Join us as we decipher how the land where vines are grown directly influences the taste of a wine.

We will taste adjacent plots from a single vintage by the same producer in Burgundy, Bordeaux, Barolo, the Mosel, and Napa.

IV:          Old Wine vs. New Wine

Sunday, December 2nd, 2018  |  1:30-330PM

Age and beauty are not equivalent.  As high quality and well-stored wine matures, incredible aromas and flavors develop that just cannot be replicated in younger wines. However, not everyone loves aged wine! The vibrancy, structure and freshness of a youthful wine make a powerful argument to drink some wines on the younger side. We will explore and discuss the profiles of older bottles when compared to their youthful equivalents, and will walk away with an understanding and greater appreciation for both.
