Some of the most interesting and exciting wines from Italy are from vineyards that grow in volcanic soils. Italy boasts some of the best and most peculiar vineyards in the world, with several pure volcanic soils stretching from North to South. From still-active volcanoes to dormant layers of ancient volcanic existence, the minerality and complexity found in these wines are unique and represent wines with aging potential as well as unrivaled character. But not all volcanic soils are the same. Some have a coastal influence, some are permeated with sand, or composites of limestone and clay, and each example is unique to time and place. Our class will be led by Diego Meraviglia, Vice President & Director of Education of the North American Sommelier Association. Diego’s passion, educational technique and experience will give you a whole new perspective on one of the most beloved wine countries and one of its most unique characteristics.
We have partnered with Dalla Terra Winery Direct to bring you an evening of simple geology and intriguing wines from these awe inspiring vineyards. Please join us for an in-depth look into some of the most peculiar and attractive red and white wines in the world. You will leave this course with a deeper understanding of the impact of geology and excited to taste and learn more of what Italy has to offer!
For students who enjoyed the Six Part Educational Series on Italy’s Most Important Regions, this class continues that instructional style.
