Tonight, we’ll explore the ‘Blood of Jove’ grape in all its expressions, from delicate and floral to deep and bold.  The grape’s signature stamp includes notes of dried cherry, black tea, dusty earth, citrus peel, Mediterranean herbs and a unique tension between acidity and tannin.  Though grown outside Tuscany, the magnificence of this noble red varietal is virtually exclusive to the region.  We’ll travel through Chianti, Montepulciano (Vino Nobile) and Montalcino (Brunello), and then head to coastal Maremma, hot bed of the on-going Super-Tuscan movement.  A-list producers that will demonstrate the subject include are Isole e Olena and Fèlsina (for Chianti Classico), Caparzo from Montalcino, and Gracciano della Seta from Montepulciano.  Morisfarms, Tolaini and Corte alla Flora will showcase outlier expressions (non-classic).  We might even throw in a Corsican Patrimonio and a US example just for fun.  Comprehensive Sangiovese by anybody’s measure!
