Italian viticulture and winemaking is a truly grand art. While the actual number of Italian produced wines is too large to be counted, Italy is home to millions of vineyards and more than a thousand documented grape varieties.

The Italian Master Series is the first step in wrapping your arms around this vast and intriguing country which produces some of the world's best and longest aging wines!

You will learn about and taste wines from Italy's two most famous wine producing areas, Piedmont and Tuscany. As part of our extensive tasting exercises, you will become acquainted with a diverse range of Italian grape varieties – from major varieties to regional specialties. You will also:
Explore Italy's wine history, from its humble beginnings to its modern-era rise to worldwide recognition.

  • Learn the famous Italian wines from Piedmont and Tuscany including Barolos, Barbarescos, Brunellos, Bolgheri / Super Tuscans, etc.
  • Become intimate with the characteristics that define wines from those appellations/districts and communes
  • Examine the highly variable geography and climate of Italy.
  • Understand the key enological and viticultural techniques used throughout Italy’s long winemaking history and how that translates to the taste profile of its wines
  • Understand Italian wine law and the DOC, DOCG, and IGT designations.
  • Master the underlying principles of pairing Italian wines with food.
