Visit from Marietta Cellars on Valentines’ Day

Wed Feb 14 5-7pm, 20% off sale all day

Marietta Cellars, located just outside of Geyserville in Sonoma County, was founded by Chris Bilbro in 1978. In recent years Chris’s sons, Jake and Scot, representing the second generation, have taken over most of the responsibilities. Marietta Cellars wines are consistent, concentrated, complex and, most importantly, pleasurable.

We have been tasting their wines for years, and they keep getting better. This year we brought in several of their wines, and Gordon Peterson, representing Marietta, will tell you all about them as you sip gorgeous bold red wines fitting for Valentine’s Day.

Marietta Cellars, Lot 66 Old Vine Red (NV), Zinfandel, Petite Sirah & Carignane, Bold Red, Geyserville, CA, Old Vine Red is a proprietary red wine made to replicate the field blends of many of the old vineyards in Sonoma and Mendocino counties. Predominantly comprised of Zinfandel, Old Vine Red combines pure fruit, a supple mouth feel and a rich, solid structure.

Marietta Roman, Zinfandel, Petite Syrah, Barbera, Bold Red, Alexander Valley, CA, Bright, plump and exuberant, this is an incredibly delicious, inviting wine. Even better, it is a tremendous value. Petite Syrah and Barbera round out the blend. Succulent red berry, spice, leather and floral notes add to the wine’s silky personality.

Marietta Angeli Cuvee, Zinfandel, Petite Syrah, Carignan, Bold Red, Alexander Valley, CA, Rich, voluptuous and sexy. Bright and evocative in the glass, the fruit runs from tart rhubarb all the way to ripe blackberry. A full mouth of fruit yields to stone and earth as the Zinfandel is bolstered by textural Petite Sirah. Brilliant now, but has aging ability.

Marietta Game Trail, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bold Red, Yorkville Highlands, Mendocino, CA, Displays a spicy nose of cloves, cinnamon and Sichuan pepper over a core of crème de cassis, dried Mediterranean herbs and black soil. Medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated, the generous fruit is well supported by grainy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing with lingering mineral suggestions.
