The Cornell Alumni Association of CNY (CAACNY) will hold its 20th annual “Far Above Cayuga’s Wineries” scholarship wine tasting and silent auction event--open to the public--on Friday, January 26, 2018, 6:00–9:00 p.m., at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park. The event is open to the public and is a great way to support the Buy Local movement with an opportunity to sample local wines and bid on items donated by prominent CNY businesses.
The event will feature more than 100 wines to sample from 19 New York State wineries, each owned or operated by Cornell University alumni, as well as a carving station, hors d’oeuvres, chocolate fountain, dessert table, and assorted teas and coffees.
The silent auction will include gift certificates and other items from Central New York, such as hotels, restaurants, wineries, ski mountains, golf courses, and other businesses. A listing of silent auction items can be found at http://caacny.com/wine-tasting/. Supporting the local economy has been a continuing trend in our region, and the wineries who participate are no stranger to that mantra.
Advance sale tickets can be purchased for $40 online at http://caacny.com/wine-tasting/ or for $45 at the door. Credit card payments will be accepted for ticket sales and silent auction items the night of the event.
Proceeds benefit CAACNY’s “Bob Bitz, Class of '52 Scholarship Fund” named in honor of Mr. Bitz, founder of Plainville Turkey Farms, for his role as an active Cornell alumnus, Trustee Emeritus, and other activities. Last year's event raised over $20,000. Scholarships assist area CNY students in attending Cornell University.
