New Years     Wine     Sit Down Dinner     Food

Wine Vault & Bistro is pleased to announce a delicious New Year's Eve dinner paired with some amazing wines.  We'll have two seatings: one at 5:00 for those of you who have other parties to go to (or just want to get home at a sane hour) and another one at 9:00 for those of you who would like to ring in the New Year here at the Vault.

As we've done for I-can't-remember-how-many-years-in-a-row-now, we're featuring (late seating only) the just released current vintage of winemaker extraordinaire Chris Ringland's "Clio," which literally arrived days ago.  (Yes, we will have a limited amount of this difficult to obtain wine available for purchase.)

The early seating is $79.50 plus tax and gratuity and includes:
1. Champagne reception with tray-passed appetizers
2. Three-course dinner paired with three great wines (including Clio and Las Alturas)
3. Dessert paired with Framboise

We hope you'll be able to join us for this fun, wine and champagne filled evening!  It promises to be a culinary and wine pairing experience like no other.  Here's the line-up.  Wine notes and bottle prices are listed at the end of this announcement if you're interested.

NOTE: Due to the complexity of this menu we regret that we will be unable to accommodate vegetarian requests.

RSVP ~ (619) 295-3939
Please make your reservations directly with Wine Vault & Bistro at 619-295-3939.  We're very good about returning calls promptly, so please leave a message with the best time to return your call if you get the dreaded voice mail.

Cost for the early dinner is $79.50.  Sales tax and an 18% gratuity will be added to the cost of dinner.  Due to limited seating, CREDIT CARD RESERVATIONS ARE AN ABSOLUTE MUST.  We accept Visa and MasterCard only.

Due to the complexity of this menu we regret that we will be unable to accommodate vegetarian requests.  If you have any other special dietary needs, please let us know when you RSVP, not when you arrive.  We will do our best to accommodate special dietary needs if we can and if given advance notice.  Please be aware that last minute menu aberration requests without advance notice will be impossible for us to accommodate.

You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours in advance without penalty.  NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED WITH LESS THAN 72-HOUR NOTICE unless we are able to replace your cancellation at the last minute.  (See below for groups over 4 people.)

If you want to come with a group of friends, please make one reservation for your entire party so we can reserve a block of seats for you ... however, in the interest of fairness to others, we reserve the right to limit the number of people on a single reservation at our discretion.  The cancellation period for canceling the ENTIRE reservation without penalty is doubled from the standard 72 hours (see above) to 144 hours (6 days).  If you need to cancel only 1 or 2 people, the standard 72-hour notice still applies.

The dinner begins promptly at 5:00, but we HIGHLY recommend that you arrive earlier to better your chances of getting a closer parking space ... and to enjoy the Champagne reception which you'll miss if you show up at the last minute!  Doors open at 4:15 for the early seating.

Wine Vault & Bistro is located in the heart of San Diego between Little Italy and Old Town at 3731-A India Street on the upper terrace.  Follow the black handrail from the sidewalk up the stairs to our front door.

Valet parking is available for $8.00.  The drop-off point is two doors south of our entrance in front of Shakespeare Pub at the corner of India and Winder.  On-street parking is also usually available within a 3-block radius.  Remember that it’s OK to park in yellow commercial zones on Sunday and that meters are also not enforced on Sunday.  You can also park in the lot behind Shakespeare Pub two doors down, but do not park in El Indio's lot unless you want your car towed!  If you can’t find parking next to the restaurant, there’s always LOTS OF PARKING on San Diego Avenue and the adjacent side streets just past the Chevron station across Washington Street.  So please don't drive yourself crazy endlessly going around in circles waiting to pounce on that perfect spot when there's TONS OF PARKING less than three blocks away!

We'll be pouring 3-5 ounce tasting portions of wine and champagne (see the line-up above) totaling 17-20 ounces or the equivalent of well over three-quarters of a bottle of wine per person.  Pour buckets are provided for designated drivers.

Although some wines may be in limited quantities, all wines poured at this dinner will be available for purchase at the restaurant until sold out.  We reserve the right to limit sales of any rare or allocated wines at our discretion.

NV Taittinger Brut la Française Champagne ~ $38
(France) Winemaker's Notes: Distinguished by a delicate nose with subtle brioche notes, this champagne has a palate of considerable depth and balance with hints of honey and fresh fruit.

2016 Stolpman "Estate" Roussanne ~ $22
(Ballard Canyon) 88% Roussanne + 12% Chardonnay. Winemaker's Notes: Intentionally cloudy, boasting a mix of neon yellow and peachy cream, this wine is singularly unique in appearance. Tangerine orange blossom, honey and a continuum of lemon sing all the way through the palate. The toasty oak framework lies underneath the fruit profile, lifting and supporting it. The creamy, zesty texture goes on forever, well beyond a typical white finish. Secondary notes of Jasmine, tropical guava, green apple, pear, apricot, and Marzipan all emerge ion this vivacious, high toned, silky beauty.

2015 Belle Glos "Las Alturas" Pinot Noir ~ $38
(Saint Lucia Highlands) Winemaker Notes: Deep ruby red in color with intriguing aromas of sun-warmed blackberries, ripe plums and hints of black licorice.  A complexity of dark berry fruits unfolds on the palate, with flavors of blackberry, Bing cherry and dark chocolate predominating.  Vanilla and cedar oak undertones on the mid-palate further enhance the wine.  The overall impression is rich with refined tannins, firm acidity and explosive layers of ripe fruit.

2014 El Nido "Clio" Spanish Red Blend ~ $46
(Spain) Winemaker's Notes: 70% Monastrel (Mourvèdre) + 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine exhibits a glass-coating opaque purple color with an expressive nose of pain grille, underbrush, brier, mineral, blueberry, and blackberry fruit leading to a plush, opulent wine with great density, savory flavors, and a lengthy finish.

Chateau Monet Liqueur Framboise ~ $24
(USA) An exquisite liqueur made from black raspberries and carefully blended with a still-secret combination of flavors.  Delicious by itself or paired with chocolate (or chocolate and berry) desserts ... or add an ounce to a flute of Champagne to make a delicious Kir Royale ... or pour over vanilla ice cream for a quick dessert ... or use in place of syrup to create an "adult" waffle ... or pour over ice and add soda water to make a refreshing berry spritzer.  16.5% alcohol.

Due to fluctuations of supply, we reserve the right to make substitutions of equal or greater value in case any of the wines or foods become unavailable.  Please, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 21 ... even if your babysitter flakes out on you at the last minute!

Hope to see you here.  Buon appetito and cheers!
