When you think of the islands, you likely think of lobster for breakfast, Ban de Soleil and a nap for lunch, and Pina Coladas at midnight. Islands, however, are also home to many of the world's most incredible, distinct, and enjoyable wines. It's all about geography, since islands are surrounded by water, they invariably have cool night time temperatures, which helps retain acidity, while if the latitude is right, they also receive plenty of sun to develop plenty of flavor, be it fruit, mineral, or whatever the grape and soil dictate.

Alas, while the best island wines all benefit from the dichotomy of warm days & cool nights, much diversity can be found amongst them. Examples to be poured in class include rich, beautiful Pinot Noirs and zesty Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand, mineral-laced, refreshing whites from Santorini, Greece, Cannonau (grenache) from Sardinia (where it likely originated), and more. also to be featured are wines from the island of Madeira, where some of the world's most distinct, legendary wines are produced. They are also some of the longest-lived wines, with examples dating back to the mid 1700's still drinking beautifully. We will offer at least one example of at least 30 years of age.

And of course, our very own Long Island will be featured. Yet this will be no token admission, nor consolation prize for the home team. We will pour wines that deserve attention for being delicious, and for no other reason whatsoever. As always, cheese, charcuterie, etc. will be served. We are most excited about this class, and hope you will join us. Thank you for your consideration.
