Now that you’ve survived Black Friday, let’s celebrate with “Red Saturday”. Whitney DeJohn from Vanguard wines will be showcasing some favorite new red wine finds from their Fall Show.
LO-VE Garnacha $19.99
95% Garnacha, 5% Tempranillo… This wine has beautiful aromas with a luxurious richness without being overwhelming. It is powerful but the alcohol is restrained. Masculine and feminine qualities dance together in a balance, each a compliment to the other.
2016 Freelander Cabernet Sauvignon $13.99
Aged in American and French oak, it shows massively rich flavors of blackberries and cassis. The full-bodied wine shows lush mouthfeel, balance and complexity. The ripe, sweet tannins and a touch of toasted oak complete the gentle finish.
2013 Montellori Chianti $13.99
Estate-grown Sangiovese aged in stainless steel tanks, this is a juicier, brighter style of Chianti—cherry, wild berry, and dried floral notes, with soft tannins and light spice at the end.
2015 Tenuta Ibidini Nero D'Avola $13.99
Fresh and fruity, this straightforward red offers aromas of ripe dark-skinned berry, licorice and leather. The soft, juicy palate doles out dried blackberry and spiced blueberry alongside round, smooth tannins.
2013 Chateau Mourges du Gres "Galets Rouges" $12.99
Carignan / Grenache / Syrah. The estate’s motto is “Sine Sole Nihil” (Nothing without sunshine), acting as the symbol of the maturity and the harmony of the wines. An intense ruby colour with aromas of ripe red fruits with a mineral touch. A very harmonious and balanced wine with soft tannins, “Les Galets Rouges” is a sublime blend of spicy red and black berry fruits.
2016 Folk Machine Pinot Noir $22.99
The Folk Machine Pinot Noir is always fairly light weight and light in color with relaxed tannins and medium acid. Though the 2015 deviated somewhat from that style, the 2016 is very consistent with what we expect from this wine. It is still very lively and an easy wine to serve with most foods. Keep expecting a fun Pinot that is elegant, pretty, and drinkable.
