Places Through Time Living History, Inc. will provide a living history program entitled “Ought it not to be a Merry Christmas?” at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Catoctin Breeze Vineyard.
How did Americans - both northern and southern - celebrate Christmas during the Civil War? Many of the customs and observances, some of which we cherish to this day, grew to be widely accepted during this terrible time of national struggle. But more than anything, we ought to remember the privations and heartaches of the soldiers far from home and their loved ones left behind. Drawn from the letters and journals of soldiers and civilians, this program transports you to a 19th century Christmas filled with the conflicting emotions of a country torn by Civil War - and resonates for our society today.
The presenter will be available for questions, pictures, etc. after the program.
Our wines will also be available for purchase by the glass or bottle during or after the event.
