Limited-seating event by virtue of vintage availability

It's Chef John and Ramona Ranch Winemaker Micole at it again...we play so well together.  What's in store, you ask?  A sure-to-be-fabulous evening of tapas and a vertical tasting of five vintages of Tannat.   Oh, my goodness!

Tannat originates in the Basque region of France near the Pyrenees, ironically the same area our  dog, Ella (a great Pyrenees) comes from.  We fell in love with Tannat when we first tasted it on a trip to Amador County.   Tannat is rarely planted in the US, but has moved from France to Uruguay, where it's considered their National Grape.

We are thrilled to announce that our Estate Tannat has been in 3 Wine Competions, and has WON GOLD in each, including Double-Gold and Best of Class in the Sonoma Grand Harvest awards, Gold at the Toast of the Coast, and Gold in the Lum Eisenman Competion.  We planted our Tannat on 1103P Rootstock and were rewarded with our first harvest in 2013.   Following the French tradition, we did an extended maceration, with more punch downs than normal to help incorporate oxygen into the fermentation process.  In 2013 & 2014, we used a relatively new yeast strain, Clos, which was isolated in the Priorat region of Spain.  We choose Clos for it's high alcohol and heat tolerance, two risks with Tannat (and Ramona) and starting in 2015, we moved our entire red production to Native Fermination (that's right, we don't add commerical yeast).  We age our wines in a mixture of new and used American and French oak barrels from our friends at Barrel Builders of Napa.

This is a wine you'll rarely find, we invite you to come up, be amoung the first to try this unique and rare wine.
