A Flight from the Winning Wineries of the 1976 Paris Tasting
and 1986 Re-Tasting
Three 2-Ounce Pours for $34

In May 1976, English wine merchant Steven Spurrier arranged a blind tasting in Paris to compare California wines from Napa Valley to French wines. The tasting panel was comprised of sommeliers from the top restaurants in Paris and the surprising results - the California wines won - had a revolutionary effect on the world’s view of California wines. A re-tasting was held on the 10th anniversary and the California wines won again.

To start the New Year, Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille (5 Oakbrook Center, Oak Brook, IL 60523; 630- 571-1808) is taking flight with their offering, The Judgment of Paris, featuring three 2-ounce pours of these fabulous award-winning California wines. The Judgement of Paris ($34), available now through Feb. 29, excluding Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, includes: 2016 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay, Napa Valley; 2015 Clos de Val Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, and 2017 Stag’s Leap Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley,

Chateau Montelena’s Napa Chardonnay showed that the New World could create balanced and complex wines in its own voice, and that the results could equal anything made the world over. Montelena has never changed in its philosophy of bringing the sunshine of California in a style that is structured, balanced and age worthy. In 1976, in what is now memorialized as “The Judgment of Paris,” Chateau Montelena Napa Valley Chardonnay was the top-ranking wine against four white Burgundies and five other California Chardonnays in a blind tasting with a who’s-who of the French food and wine industry judging.

Clos Du Val, French for “small vineyard estate of a small valley,” was founded in 1972 in the renowned Stags Leap District. The winery was first recognized for its Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at the famed Judgment of Paris in 1976, establishing its place as one of Napa Valley’s most iconic winery estates. Still family-owned, Clos Du Val farms 350 acres of estate vineyards in the Stags Leap District, Carneros and Yountville appellations and continues to craft wines of balance and complexity, showcasing the fruit from the outstanding terroir on which the estate lies.

Considered one of the "first growths" of Napa Valley, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars produces renowned Cabernet Sauvignon from its historic Stags Leap District estate vineyards. Founded in 1970, the winery brought international recognition to California winemaking and the Napa Valley when the 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon won the now famous 1976 Paris Tasting, also known as the "Judgement of Paris." Stag's Leap Wine Cellars' three estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons - CASK 23, S.L.V. and Fay - are among the most highly regarded and collected Cabernet Sauvignons worldwide. The wines are fashioned to express richness balanced by elegant restraint, an approach often described as "an iron fist in a velvet glove."
