EVENING LAND VINEYARDS

The Evening Land has long been a symbol of the dream quest to find the mythical Greek garden where the golden fruits of immortality grew – tethered to the setting sun on the western rim of the unknown world – just beyond the reach of mortals. Inspired by the myth, the journey began to find the “perfect vinegarden” along the coastal world in which exceptional Pinot Noir, Gamay Noir and Chardonnay grapes could grow.

Situated in the southeastern Eola-Amity Hills, Evening Land’s Seven Springs Vineyard is dry-farmed using biodynamic practices. The Pacific Ocean Breeze, volcanic soil, eastern exposure and high elevatin contribute to the natural preservation of the grapes’ acidity and enrich the wines with elegant flavors and minerality. Sixty-five acres were initially planted in the early 1980s and has since expanded to cover seventy acres of land.

At Evening Land, the goal is to explore great terroir and reflect that greatness in every bottle that is produced. This begins in the vineyard with a constant stewardship of the land. Evening Land strives to make wines that reflect only the essence of the vineyard – the unique conjunction between a place, nature and time. Nothing is added; nothing is removed. The winemakers practice precision viticulture and let the land express itself, and they embrace the unique character of every vintage. Evening Land wines are created with energy, purity, transparency and elegance with insistence on true appreciation of site.

Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman stand at the vanguard of new world wine. Together they steward the historic Seven Spring Vineyard into its fourth decade.  With an endless passion for both viticulture and winemaking, Sashi Moorman has earned a reputation as one of the new world’s brightest and most compelling winemakers. Together with Raj Parr, he serves as Evening Land’s proprietor and winemaker. Sashi’s thoughtful approach to the historic Seven Springs estate will ensure it continues producing benchmark Oregon wines for generations to come.

Ben DiCristina brings serenity and attention to detail to the wines of Evening Land. Tasked with realizing Raj & Sashi's vision of the vineyard's potential, Ben offers a wealth of experience, having served in the cellars and vineyards at Sine Qua Non and J. K. Carriere.

CUCCIOLO OSTERIA

Cucciolo’s owner, Jimmy Kim, previously ran the Triangle-based Korean food truck Mixed, selling it recently to focus on the new restaurant.

Italian comfort food is what he remembers from his childhood and growing up in Switzerland. He later attended Duke University, which is what led to him establish roots in Durham. After Kim’s cousin successfully opened a few Cucciolo Italian restaurants in South Korea, Kim decided to expand that concept to the Bull City.

“Our goal is to cook simple dishes the right way, using good ingredients (which is not as easy as it sounds),” Kim explains about the menu. “We have no interest in carrying a large menu either…we just want to make sure that all and any food we serve at Cucciolo is high quality that customers enjoy.”
