Good wine is made great by using more natural methods, right?  One would hope so!  We’ll explore the natural world with regards to growing and making wine. “Organic wine” by definition in the US must have no sulfites added, but there are much wider options. Biodynamics is a holistic way of farming started in the 1920’s; it’s the oldest anti-chemical, “green” movement, with planting, pruning, picking, and bottling timed to planetary, solar and lunar rhythms. Sustainable viticulture is equated to the French “lutte raisonnée” or ‘reasoned struggle’, with agrochemicals used only when absolutely necessary.  We’ll explore this fascinating topic with wonderfully eclectic producers, including Raventós, one of the only Spanish estates that practices biodynamic viticulture exclusively, Arianna Occhipinti in Sicily,Cruse Wine Company in California, Maxime Magnon in Corbières, and Guy Breton of Beaujolais’ “Gang of Four” back-to-nature innovators.

P.S. Though there is no deception or disguise permitted for the wines we are tasting, you are welcome to wear your Halloween costume tonight!
